If you’ve found yourself caring for a person who is struggling with health issues (whether they be physical or mental), you might feel like you really only have room to think about them and their needs, not your own.
Today, Life Resolutions Psychologist Mary Magalotti shares her thoughts on how you can look after yourself while supporting someone you love.
Mary Magalotti’s Thoughts on Self Care
Develop a healthy support network: Sharing the pressures of caring for someone can help reduce your stress. Find people to be around who support you and make you feel good – try to link up with others in similar situations too.
Make time for yourself: Sometimes, caring for someone can feel like a 24/7 job. However, burnout helps nobody, so you should make sure you get some time to yourself. Schedule it in and seek support with your caring duties if needed.
Seek support: Caring for someone when they are struggling can be hard on you too. At Life Resolutions, we encourage all carers and support people to reach out – we’re here to talk.
